The House of Representatives on Thursday, 13th July 2023, received a letter from President Bola Tinubu, stating his intention to transfer N8,000 to 12m low-income households for a period of six month to help mitigate the current hardship faced by Nigerians as a result of subsidy removal.
In a letter to the House of Representatives, read by Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, during plenary on Thursday,13th July 2023, Tinubu, disclosed it was support to enable poor and vulnerable Nigerians to cope with the cost of meeting basic needs.
Additional, financing for the National social safety net programme is to be scaled up by the National Assembly. The President said this would have a multiplier effect on about 60 million individuals.
To ensure credibility of the process, President Tinubu, said digital channels would be used to transfer the money directly to beneficiaries accounts.
