The All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Rukayat Shittu, has been declared the winner of the Kwara State House of Assembly election, in the Saturday, 18th March, 2023, House of Assembly election.

Shittu, who is 26 years old, represents the Owode/Onire Constituency in the Asa Local Government Area, in Kwara State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s, INEC, returning officer, Professor Akeem Olasunkanmi Ijaiya, said that Shittu pulled 7,521 votes.

Shittu defeated her closest rival, Abdullah Magaji of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 6,957 votes during the elections.

Ijaiya declared;

“Having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the requirements of the law, she is hereby declared the winner of the election”.

This makes her the youngest lawmaker in the state and in the country to clinch the House of Assembly seat.
