The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has extended its warning strike for another two months to give Government more time to meet its demands.

The National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who stated this after its National Executive Council, NEC, meeting held ASUU National Secretariat, University of Abuja, Said the roll-over strike shall commence on Monday, March 14th, 2022.

Osodeke explained that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Universities arrived at the decision at an emergency meeting held on Sunday,March 13th, 2022. 

He said the strike action came on the heels of the Government’s failure to satisfactorily implement the Memorandum of Action, MoA, it signed with the Union in December 2020 on funding for revitalization of public universities (both Federal and States), renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement, deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS, Earned Academic Allowances, State Universities, promotion arrears, withheld salaries, and non-remittance of third-party deductions.

He added that the Union’s leadership held some interactive meetings with government officials in the last four weeks that the strike action lasted, stressing however, that ASUU was disappointed that Government did not treat the matters involved with utmost urgency they deserved during the four-week period.
