President, Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the appointment of Brig. General Y.D. Ahmed as the new Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

He will be officially taking over today Monday, 30th January, 2023, from Christy Uba, the most senior director, who has been in an acting capacity for about three months after the unceremonious removal of Brig.General Mohammed Fadah over alleged incompetence and poor performance in 2022.

She was the corps’ Director, Information and Communications Technology as of the time she was named the acting DG on November 22, 2022.

Udo is the first woman to be appointed to such position in NYSC since establishment of the scheme about 50 years ago.

Brig Gen Ahmed has held a number of command and staff positions among which are NAEC’s Deputy Chief of Staff G3/G7 and the Institute of Military History’s Deputy director and his most recent position was Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Military school, Zaria.

The handing over ceremony is expected to hold at the Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim conference Hall, NYSC Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja.
