Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has finally paid the bride price (Umunna) of Chief Chioma in full at Ezeala Odu, Imo state.

Chioma and Davido

According to reports, Davido has married his girlfriend Chioma both traditionally and in the registry. He has paid in full to Umunna group in Owerri, Nkworji Ezeala Ofu Nkwerre local government area in Imo state.

In the photos and videos making waves on social media, Chioma’s dad was spotted performing the Umunna rites and Umuada rites.

The second phase of an Igbo wedding is the Umunna rites which is a meeting between the groom’s family and the bride’s extended family. This meeting is important because the groom’s people have to restate their interest in marrying from the bride-to-be family, in the presence of her Umunna (direct and extended family, with family elders). Once consent has been secured, dates for the traditional wedding will be set and the bride price list will be sent out. The groom takes a few gifts such as kola nuts, palm wine, beer, soft drinks, tobacco, snuff, and a goat which will be shared between the groom and bride’s family.

According to reports,  towards the end of the last year, Davido and Chioma got married traditionally On the 6th of November 2022, weeks after they lost their son, Ifeanyi Adeleke on the 31st of October 2022. The rites were done in Lagos before their son Ifeanyi was buried cos in Chioma’s Village you cannot have the child’s body unless you pay the Bride price…

Chioma’s dad was in the Village during the Festive period of 2022 and on January 3, 2023, the Umunna got their share of the money,

So, It is no longer Chioma Rowland but now Chioma Adeleke.
