Football Association, FA, has given a match suspension and fined £90,000 against Chelsea defender, Reece James, on Wednesday, 4th October, 2023, following admitting to abusing a referee after last month’s defeat to Aston Villa.

This was confirmed on the FA spokesperson’s official X handle.

England-born wing-back James was not among the players that played on Sunday, 24th September, with Aston Villa due to injury.

When Villa scored a goal win against Chelsea, James was triggered to use unguarded words at the referee in the tunnel after the game.

Based on the report, James’ action, which he admitted was contrary to FA Rule E3.

An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions following a hearing, and its written reasons for them will be published at the earliest opportunity.

The 23-year-old defender, sustained a hamstring injury in training last month and has not played since the home draw against Liverpool on the opening day of the season.

Chelsea are expecting James’ return to action in the home Premier League match against Arsenal on 21st October.
