Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has revealed in an interactive session with military retirees groups, that one hundred and ten thousand, N110,000, military retirees signed up for the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, in Abuja, on Thursday, 21st September 2023.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to providing appropriate healthcare for both active and retired military personnel at a meeting organised by Defence Health Maintenance Ltd and the Health Maintenance Organisation, which was attended by Dr. Olajide Johnson, the Director of Health Services.
According to the Minister, the health needs of military personnel must be met, when in and after service. He urged the recipients to utilise it for the sake of their health.

The main goal of the conference, according to Rear Adm. Bayo Afolayan Rtd., Managing Director of DHML, was to inform the military retirees about the advantages of the NHIS.
The military retirees received assurances from Olaniyan that they could access the health insurance plan without having their pensions reduced.
