The Federal Government on Wednesday, 17th May, 2023, renamed the Ministry of Aviation to the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace.
The Minister, Hadi Sirika, made the announcement while stating that aviation and aerospace were intertwined and there was a need for Nigeria to proactively set its policies to align with future occurrences.
Sirika explained that the change became necessary because it is on the exclusive list, due to advancements in the sectors.
The minister further announced the establishment of the African Aerospace and Aviation University in Abuja, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU with Nile University to that effect.
The new name of the ministry was approved by the Federal Executive Council, FEC at a meeting presided by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Council also approved the draft National Civil Aviation Policy, which is geared towards the strengthening of the civil aviation sector.
