Football Pundit and Former England striker, Eni Aluko, disclosed on Wednesday, 17th January 2024, that she had initiated legal proceedings against the former Manchester City player, Joey Barton, expressing genuine fear for her safety due to the alleged online abuse stemming from Barton’s social media posts.

Aluko emphasized the broader impact of online abuse on safety, mental health, and work culture.

She warned of potential tragic outcomes and drawing parallels with the late Caroline Flack’s suicide.

Aluko, without explicitly naming Barton, accused the “former Man City player” of sexism, racism, misogyny, and a violent history.

Barton sparked controversy earlier this month when he compared Aluko and her fellow pundit, Lucy Ward to the notorious serial killers Fred and Rose West.

This comparison arose as he questioned the legitimacy of Aluko and Ward as pundits following their coverage of Crystal Palace’s FA Cup draw with Everton.

The Wests, who committed heinous crimes, were responsible for the murder of 12 women and young girls over a 20-year period.

Fred West took his own life before facing trial, while Rose West, now 70, was sentenced to 10 life terms and remains in prison.
