Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, has parted ways with coach, Chris Hughton, following their early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ghana Football Association, GFA, announced the immediate termination of Hughton’s contract and the dissolution of the technical team on Wednesday, 24th January, 2024, via its official X handle.

The decision comes after the team finished on two points in Group B, drawing 2-2 with Egypt and Mozambique and suffering a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde.

The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.

The GFA will unveil plans for the future direction of the Black Stars in the coming days.

Hughton, who took charge in February 2022, faced criticism after a shock defeat by Cape Verde and a fan altercation.

Despite initial optimism, Ghana’s hopes of advancing got dashed when results didn’t favor them in the group stage.

The GFA expressed unwavering support for Hughton earlier but has now opted for a change in leadership.
