The Ekiti State Government has announced a ban on the planned three-day kissing marathon to set the Guinness World Record in the state which was scheduled to commence on Friday, 7th July 2023.
In a promotional advert making rounds in the state and on social media, a group identified as Sugartee had scheduled 7th July, 2023 as the commencement of the longest world kissing marathon at a popular amusement park in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The state Ministry of Arts and Culture, expressed its disapproval of the planned event and issued a cautionary message addressed to all Ekiti State hoteliers, signed by Director of Tourism, Adebanji Adelusi on behalf of the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dele Ogunsemoyin, advising them against permitting their establishments to be utilized for this marathon activity and threatening to sanction any facility that agrees to host the event.
According to the Tourism Ministry, the proposed event tagged as the ‘Kiss-a-thon’ had the potential to damage the reputation of the state, running counter to the values of the people and, therefore, capable of plunging our youths morally backwards.
