The Akwa Ibom State high court in Uyo has sentenced Uduak Frank Akpan, the accused in the murder of Iniubong Umoren, to die by hanging.
The judgment which reportedly took over two hours was presided over by Judge Bassey Nkanang. The ruling ascertained the accused was guilty of rape and murder. Subsequently, he was sentenced to be hung on the neck till he dies.
A Twitter user, @drpenKing, reported the ruling live via his account. Apparently, the accused attempted making a run for it.

Back in April of 2021, Iniubong Umoren was allegedly raped and killed by Uduak Akpan who lured her to the outskirts of Uyo with the promise of a fake job. Sadly, her remains were found buried in a shallow grave in the accused’s family house. It was later determined to be the site of the heinous crime.
The case received a lot of media exposure following alert by Ms Ubong’s friend who knew about her sojourn that day. Since then, Nigerians online and offline had been demanding that Mr. Akpan be brought to justice.
The office of the Attorney-General of Akwa Ibom State charged Akpan with rape and murder. His father and sister who were initially facing charges for being ‘accessories after the fact’ to the murder, were found not guilty.
