The Nigerian Security Printing and Minting, NSPM, has said that the ink stains from the new Naira notes are security features that will enable Nigerians easily identify fake naira notes.

This is contained in a statement issued on Friday, 6th January, 2022, and signed by NSPM’s Managing Director, Ahmed Halilu, in response to concerns and comments, regarding the quality of the redesigned notes.

He explained the reason why the new Naira notes leave ink stain when rubbed on plain white surfaces while stressing that best international practice was followed in it’s production, with an assurance that they were of the same substrates as the existing ones and passed through the same printing and finishing procedures.

“It is, however, important to note that new banknotes are generally light when issued, then become heavier in circulation on getting in contact with dirt and moisture”, he said.

The company, also referred to as “The MINT”, is responsible for producing the naira note which is Nigeria’s currency.
