A magistrates’ court in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, 19th October, 2023, has sentenced Gambo Adamu to 12 months in prison for orchestrating a fraudulent marriage between his mother-in-law, Sa’adatu Aliyu, and former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

The plaintiff, a divorcee, accused her son-in-law of extorting N5 million from her, promising to facilitate a marriage to President Buhari.

She claimed that he presented her with N100,000 as a bride price, along with kola nuts and fried chicken, all on behalf of the former president during the wedding ceremony.

When the promised marriage did not materialize, she sought court intervention.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Musa Zago, sentenced Adamu to 12 months in prison for cheating, offering an option of a N100,000 fine and also ordered him to pay N2 million as compensation to the plaintiff.
