NetNaija, a free-to-air streaming and movie download site, on Saturday, 16th September, 2023, announced the discontinuation of its services.
In a statement made via their website, NetNaija explained how it had started as a personal hobby before becoming a popular fan favourite.
It was quite a ride while it lasted. It breaks our hearts to break the hearts of our esteemed visitors with this action. We have always pushed it back, but unfortunately, we will be going ahead this time.

To everyone who contributed to the growth in any way, be it visiting, requesting, recommending, or any other means, we thank you and highly appreciate you.
It added that the decision to discontinue the service was one they always wanted to take but kept postponing it.
However, the platform said it would now be focusing on other sections of its services.
To our legion of soldiers who represent us around social media and fight our battles, we thank you especially.
We hope we will continue to have you as we now focus on other sections of our services.
The announcement of Net Naija closure garnered mixed reactions from some Nigerians on the micro blogging site, X.
While some were devastated with the news, others said the site should be sued for pirating movies.
Until its closure, the platform has been called out severally by Nigerian movie makers for being notorious for piracy.
