Nigeria and the Republic of Benin have submitted a joint bid to host the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, 2027 tournament as revealed on Tuesday, 26th September, 2023.

The report was made public via the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, on his official X handle.
Nigeria representatives via the Ministry of Sports and Development, are to attend the Confederation of African Football, CAF, executive committee meeting.
The aim of the meeting is to convince the executive council of CAF on the need to permit Nigeria and Benin to host AFCON 2027.
The Minister goes with the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, Ismaila Abubakar, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Gusau.
While others are, General Secretary of the NFF, Mohammed Sanusi, and bid coordinator, Mainasara Ilo.
The crucial meeting is to hold in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, 27th September, 2023.
Nigeria is expected to make a 10-minute presentation to CAF’s executive committee at the meeting and some minutes too.
Meanwhile, CAF’s inspection committee had earlier visited Nigeria to evaluate facilities at different proposed venues within the country and answer questions from the presentation.
All countries, who submitted bids to host AFCON 2027 are expected to attend the meeting and prove their capabilities to host the tournament.
After which the independent assessment committee of CAF, will submit their reports and discussions by CAF Executive council.
Meanwhile, CAF’s inspection committee, had earlier visited Nigeria evaluate facilities at different proposed venues within the country.
