Nigerian international music sensation, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, won her first-ever Grammy Award, at the 2023 Grammy Awards as ’Best Melodic Rap performance’ at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, USA, held on Sunday 5th February, 2023.

She won the award for her featured in the 2022 hit song ‘Wait for U’, which included Drake, making her the first Nigerian female, to win a Grammy for the “Best Melodic Rap Performance” category at the 65th annual Grammy awards.

The “Free Minds” hit crooner, whose fame shot into the limelight after her hit collaboration song with Wizkid, titled Essence, gave her the opportunity to collaborate on hit songs with the finest in the music industry in America.

Others nominated for the category won by Tems included DJ Khaled Featuring Future & SZA, Beautiful; Jack Harlow First Class; Kendrick Lamar Featuring Blxst & Amanda Reifer ‘Die Hard’ and Latto – Big Energy ‘Live’.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy, who was nominated in the “Best Global Music Album” and the “Best Global Music Performance” categories, failed to win any of them.
