Nigerian lady, Dinchi Lar, who was jailed in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, for a post shared on her Twitter handle about being detained in a Dubai airport in October 2022, has finally regained her freedom having completed her 3 months jail term from United Arab Emirates prison.

Prior to her release, the UAE government had reduced the 1 year sentence to 3 months only through the intervention of our able representative, Hon Beni Lar and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Miss Lar was sentenced on the 12th of October 2022 and had 15 days to appeal the judgment.

Dinchi, who arrived Abuja on the 8th of December 2022, was received by the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology, Beni Lar, who represents Langtang north/south Federal constituency of Plateau State. The Chairman commended the Federal Government for responding swiftly to the pains of the family and securing her release.

The lawmaker also thanked the Nigerian Mission in the UAE for their doggedness and the use of diplomatic channels in resolving all issues that led to the imprisonment of the detainee.

Lar advised all other citizens of the Nigerian state wishing to travel abroad for greener pastures to endeavour to study and understand the laws of such countries before embarking on the trips.

Dinchi Lar, an indigene of Plateau state, was sentenced to a one-year jail term by the United Arab Emirates government for a post she shared on her Twitter handle on how she and some Nigerian nationals were illegally detained for 8 hours at Dubai international airport.
