Nigerian sports figure Favour Oghene Tejiri Ashe has been apprehended in the United States, facing multiple charges related to theft and fraud.
The athlete, also a student, was taken into custody by Auburn police on Friday, February 9th 2024, accused of four instances of fraudulent debit/credit card use and two counts of property theft.
The allegations involve the theft of various items, including a credit card, which was subsequently used for unauthorized transactions.
Auburn Police initiated the case on February 4th 2024, following a report of stolen items, including the credit card, near West Magnolia Avenue.
Ashe is currently held at Lee County Jail on a $9,000 bond as he awaits his court appearance.
Notably, Ashe, who secured a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay for Nigeria at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, recently transferred from the University of Tennessee to Auburn University in Alabama, representing the NCAA.
