On Air Personality, Toke Makinwa, has addressed the criticisms she faced from Nigerians regarding her inclusion in Nigeria’s delegation to the COP28 climate change conference in Dubai.
Responding to the criticisms on her social media handle on Saturday, 2nd December 2023, Toke implied that being a trending topic during a crucial global meeting where world leaders are discussing issues affecting the planet, was something she took pride in.
She also expressed anticipation for attending COP30 in Rio.
The Nigerian social media sphere buzzed on Saturday when Toke’s name was spotted on a list of 1,411 delegates from Nigeria for the climate change conference surfaced on the net.
This list triggered reactions from numerous Nigerians who claimed the federal government sponsored the delegates.
They wondered why she was among the delegates at such a significant meeting.
Many people also raised concern over financial implications of having such a large delegation at a time when the government was expected to be cutting cost.
COP28, the 28th edition of the United Nations UN ,climate meeting, serves as a platform for governments to deliberate on strategies for mitigating and adapting to impending climate change.
This year’s summit is underway in Dubai, UnitedArab Emirates UAE.
