The ousted Gabon President, Ali Bongo has regained his freedom after he was placed under house arrest in a military coup that ensued on Wednesday, 30th August 2023.

The leader of the military junta that toppled Bongo’s 14 years reign, General Brice Oligui Nguema stated in a televised broadcast on Wednesday, 6th September 2023, that the ousted President is free and can leave the country to seek medical care.

Army officers appeared in a televised broadcast on Wednesday, 6th September 2023, announcing that they had annulled the result of the concluded elections that declared Ali Bongo the winner.

The ousted President immediately sought for help after the army that ousted him in a coup put him under house arrest.

Mr Bongo appealed to his supporters to raise their voices while speaking from a residence.

Ali Bongo had been under house arrest since the military coup of August 30.

The Military takeover in Gabon had since generated condemnation from the Chairman, ECOWAS, Head of State and President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other world leaders.

Gabon has also been suspended from the African Union, AU.
