Nigeria President, Bola Tinubu, has extended heartfelt condolences to King Mohammed VI of Morocco following the devastating earthquake that occurred in his country on Friday, 8th September, 2023.

This was disclosed by the President’s Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, via presidency official X handle on Saturday, 9th September, 2023.

The President commiserated with all families who lost loved ones and those otherwise affected by the tragedy.

He also wished those who sustained injuries from the earthquake a full and speedy recovery.

President Tinubu, assured the government and Moroccans that the heartfelt prayers and thoughts of Nigerians were with them in this tragic period.

In the face of this adversity, Nigeria will continue to stand in solidarity with Morocco as they recover, rebuild and come out stronger than ever from this unfortunate event.

According to report by the US Geological Survey, a powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.8 struck the village of Amizmiz, about 64km south of Marakesh on Friday ,8th September 2023.

Morocco devastating earthquake

Scientists said the earthquake, which was centered in Ighil, a small town about 40 miles, southwest of Marrakesh, destroyed some buildings in the ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Moroccan state media reports that at least 820 persons were killed and 672 injured. It said most deaths were in hard-to-reach mountainous areas.
