Power FM 100.5 Bida, one of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria’s FM stations, located in Niger state, celebrates it’s 20th anniversary of existence with quality and consistent broadcasting in grand style on Monday, 6th February, 2023. Activities marking the 20th anniversary of Radio Nigeria Power FM Bida climaxed with an award ceremony for some individuals who distinguished themselves in societal growth in Niger State, Nigeria. Power FM 100.5 Bida, was founded on the 6th of February 2003.
The General Manager of the station, Comrade Abdulrasheed Abdulkarim, while expressing joy and appreciating listeners in the state, reaffirmed commitment, to intensify efforts to provide quality broadcasting and content for it’s listeners. The General Manager Power FM Bida, paid glowing tributes to the past and present Directors General, Zonal Directors and General Managers for their commitments which has continued to propelled the Station.
The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, who is the Chairman Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers and who was also among the awardees acknowledged that, from the onset, the Station has performed tremendously well in it’s corporate social responsibility to residents of Niger State. He urged the station to come up with more educative programmes for it’s listeners. Represented by the Makama Nupe, Alhaji Dalhatu Aliyu Makama, the Monarch advocated special monetary consideration for religious organisations to give them ample opportunity to sponsor programmes that dwell on moral values.
A special Jumat prayer, was held on Friday 5th February, 2023, led by the Chief Imam of Bida, Sheik Adamu Yankantu, who urged the management of the station, not to allow commercialization take over it’s responsibility of coming up with programs that will reduce moral decadence.
A special Sunday service was held at the Cathedral of Saints John Bida to celebrate the landmark event. At the service, Bishop Jonah Kolo enjoined the media to remain focused in the discharge of it’s duties. Bishop Jonah Kolo praised the outstanding performance of the station over years and urged them not to relent.
Part of activities that trailed the epoch making event was a novelty match at the Aliyu Yakum stadium Bida on 4th January, 2023 between Selected Legends of Bida and the Legends of Bida All Stars. The match ended three-two in favor of the Selected Legends.
The high point of the event which was the Award Ceremony feature Eight distinguished persons including the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, Senator Muhammad Bima Enagi, Rector, Federal Polytechnic Bida, Dr Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi, Former Speaker Niger State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammadu Tsowa Gamunu were honoured while a posthumous honour was awarded to late Dr Umar Sanda.
Other recipients are, Alhaji Saidu Musa Abdul, Member Representing Bida Gbako Katcha Federal Constituency, Alhaji Mohammed Haruna Dokodza, Member Representing Bida North Constituency, Niger State House of Assembly, Dr Mathew Ahmed, State Programme Coordinator of IFAD Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP Additional Financing and Malam Haruna Yahaya a Frontline Chartered Accountant.
Speaking on behalf of the Awardees , the member representing Bida South in the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Haruna Mohammed Dokozda pledged to sustain partnership with the station.
There were goodwill messages from former ASUP National Secretary, Dr Usman Idris Nda Umar, Sarkin Samari Nupe Alhaji Baba Suleman and other friends of the Station including the representatives of Kwara North Senatorial Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Alhaji Abdulkadir Adamu Manko.
The event was also honoured by Dr. Abubakar Umar the Medical Director, Federal Medical Center Bida, and Dr. Aliyu Usman, the Executive Director, National Cereal Research Institute Bida who gave goodwill messages. They congratulated the station and thanked Power FM Bida, for the privilege to be part of the event, and hoped for progressive partnerships moving forward.
