The 2023 Ramadan fasting starts, Thursday, 23rd March 2023.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar disclosed this in an announcement on Wednesday 22nd.
He said the announcement followed the sighting of the crescent of Ramadan in different parts of the country.
The Sultan announced;
“Today, Wednesday, the 29th day of Shaaban 1444 AH, which is equivalent to 22nd of March 2023 marks the end of the month of Shaaban”.
“We therefore call on all Muslims to commence fasting accordingly.
“As we just concluded the 2023 general election, and leaders emerged at national and state levels by Allah’s will; we therefore call on all Muslims to use this Holy Month for extra prayers for their successes in steering the affairs of our great country.”

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim lunar year and the only one mentioned by name in the Qur’an. It is intrinsically linked to the observance of the fourth of the five pillars of Islam, i.e. the practice of obligatory fasting.
