A seven-storey building located in First Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi area of Lagos State, collapsed on Wednesday, 12th April, 2023.

According to reports, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency disclosed that the building collapsed was as a result of a truck that ran into it.

Some of the workers were said to have jumped from the top floor just before the building collapsed.

the Agency stated that seven persons, all construction workers were rescued while rescue operations are still ongoing; so far no life has been lost, while an undisclosed number of construction workers are still reportedly trapped under the rubble of the building.

The Deputy Director Public Affairs, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Lagos State, Mukaila Sanusi, disclosed that the affected building did not have approval.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, visited the site to assess the situation and ton flag an investigation.

He appealed to the public to remain calm and expect further information from the Ministry as soon as it is available.
