Governors of the South-East region of Nigeria, have named the Second Niger Bridge after President Muhammadu Buhari.

The south eastern states Governors, took the decision ahead of the project inauguration held on Tuesday, 23rd, May, 2023, to appreciate him for completing the project after successive administrations failed to do so.

This was made known by Bashir Ahmad, Special Assistant to the President on digital communications, on his twitter, shortly after the President’s inauguration.

The construction of the bridge began on 1st September, 2018, it spans from Asaba in Delta State, South-South Nigeria to Ozubulu, Ogbaru and other communities in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria.

The five Governors are : Charles Soludo- Anambra;  Dave Umahi- Ebonyi; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi- Enugu; Hope Uzodinma- Imo and Okezie Ikpeazu- Abia.

The first Niger Bridge, linking Onitsha and Asaba, was completed in 1965 by French construction company, Dumez.
