Nigerian international star Tems, who was the first Nigerian artist to be nominated, for the ‘Best Original Award’, at the 95th Oscars Awards, which took place on Sunday, 12th March 2023, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, failed to bag the award.

Tems was nominated alongside Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson and Ryan Coogler, who all contributed to the song in the ‘Best Original Song’ category for ‘Lift Me Up’ from the popular movie Black Panther Wakanda Forever.

The category was won by Naatu Naatu from the Bollywood movie ‘RRR‘, written by composer M.M. Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose.

In January 2023, the same song made history when it won a Golden Globe for ‘Best Original Song’ and the ‘Critics Choice Award’, for the best song, which is a first for India.

Other nominees in the category include ‘Applause’; Diane Warren, ‘Hold My Hand’; Lady Gaga and BloodPop, ‘Naatu Naatu’ MM Keeravaani, Chandrabose, as well as Ryan Lott, David Byrne and Mitski.
