The University of Maiduguri is set honor Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other distinguished alumni at its 24th convocation ceremony due to hold on Saturday, 18th November 2023.

The President of the Alumni Association, Professor Adamu Dzivama, disclosed this in a live interview with Radio Nigeria Network News on Thursday, 9th September 2023.

While citing the VP’s accomplishments and resilience at the height of the Boko Haram insurgency when he was the governor, the Alumni Association president credited the VP for ensuring that the university did not shut down even at the peak of the insurgency.
Professor Zafana also confirmed that The Emir of Lafiya, Sidi Bage, who is also the university’s chancellor, is among the dignitaries to be recognized at the event.
He assured invited guests and the general public that Maiduguri is relatively safe and peaceful and that security measures have been heightened for the event, which marks the first convocation in five years.
The university had to suspend its convocation since 2019 due the COVID-19 pandemic, and the prolonged Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, strike.
