The Presidency has denied that there has been a hike in the tuition fee of federal universities.

These clarification was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday, 26th July, 2023 by Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President, Special Duties, Communications and Strategy.

According to the statement, while tuition fees remain free, certain universities increased “discretionary charges” for certain services they provide.

The fact remains and we have confirmed that these are discretionary charges by each university for hostel accommodation, registration, laboratory and other charges. They are not tuition fees.

Alake said stated that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to his promise of ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of their economic status has access to quality education.

The clarification is coming days after some tertiary institutions including the University of Lagos (UNILAG) hiked their fees for new and returning undergraduate students.
