Ayobami Ogunmoroti, a political science graduate turns akara business CEO

“I pay myself with this akara business and settle other necessary bills.” Ayobami Ogunmoroti, a graduate of political science, has defied the rising tide of unemployment in Nigeria and set up a thriving akara business in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

The National Bureau of statistics puts the unemployment rate in Nigeria at 53.4% in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Despite the high figures, many youths still chase scarce white collar jobs because they are considered  prestigious.

However, youths like Ayobami are breaking away from that mentality and are making money from doing businesses many look down on, Instead of waiting for jobs that might never come or taking to crime.

Akara is a business that is stereotypically associated with women in Nigeria.
