The West African Examinations Council, WEAC, has revealed that the use of computer-based testing, CBT, for its Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, is well underway.

The head of WAEC’s national office in Nigeria, Patrick Areghan, made the disclose while pointing out a number of difficulties which the procedure may face, such as reservations about administering practical and essay exams in a CBT format and the dearth of computer literacy and resources in many institutions.

Areghan however disclose that the CBT can only be readily implied by the testing body in the event of objective questions.

Areghan pointed out that some schools lack computer literacy and adequate equipment, in addition to having electrical problems.

He said the computer-based method might be an alternative when it is deployed, taking into account the identified difficulties.
