It was a big win for Nigeria as popular star singer, Wizkid, won the award for the Best African Artiste of the year at the 23rd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards show.

The Ghana Music Awards, which was founded in 1999, held their 23rd award ceremony at the Accra International Conference Centre.

On the first night of the two-day award ceremony, Ghanaian rapper and musician, Fameye, took home the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ award for his song ‘Praise,’ while Ghanaian record producer and composer, MOGBeatz took home the ‘Producer of the Year’ award.

Wizkid beat out other Nigerian artists such as Tems, Ckay, Joeboy, and Fireboy Dml to win the ‘Artiste of the Year‘.

Wizkid is a multiple award winning artist; one of which, is the Grammy award he won on his song collaboration with Beyonce in 2021.

This win comes after the singer lost two Grammy nominations at the 2022 Grammy awards- The ‘Best Global Music Performance award‘, which was won by Arooj Aftab, and Angelique Kidjo, won the ‘Best Global Music Album‘ category.
