Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has been sworn in as the 10th Senate President succeeding Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday, 13th June, 2023.

The election began before 9am, against the 10am, which was earlier scheduled with Akpabio was declared winner of the election into the Senate Presidency having scored 63 votes against his rival, former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, who scored 43, by Magaji Tambuwal.

Akpabio, who is the nominee of the ruling All Progressives Congress was elected unopposed to lead the 10th National Assembly with Senator Jibrin Barau from Kano state to deputize him.

He was administered the oath of membership of the National Assembly and that of the office of Senate President, by the Clerk to the National Assembly.
