The Department of State Services, DSS, on Wednesday, 14th June, 2023, at about 9:02 pm invited the EFCC boss, AbdulRasheed Bawa, over some investigative activities concerning him, after his suspension from office by President Tinubu.

A statement by the spokesman of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, confirmed Bawa is with their agency.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“Bawa arrived a few hours ago. The invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him”, Afunanya said.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the suspension of Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, AbdulRasheed Bawa with immediate effect.

According to a statement released Wednesday 14th June, 2023, by the Director of information of the secretary to the State government, Willie Bassey, Bawa’s suspension is to allow for proper investigation of weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him while in office.

Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Bawa has been accused by the immediate past governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, of demanding $2 million as a bribe from him. An allegation which the EFCC boss denied.

Bawa is currently being grilled by the operatives of the secret police.
