President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate suspension of Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation over the alleged payment of 585 million Naira designated for vulnerable people into a private account.

This suspension was announced in a statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Monday, 8th January 2023.

Ngelale stated that this action is in line with the President’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in managing Nigeria’s resources.

Furthermore, the President has directed the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to conduct a thorough investigation into all financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as other agencies under its jurisdiction.
