The Delta State Government is implementing a ban on water travel across its waterways unless passengers wear life jackets and adhere to other safety protocols.

This decision was announced by the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in a condolence message on the Delta State official X handle, extended to the families affected by the recent boat accident on the River Niger, which tragically claimed the life of Nollywood actor, Junior Pope, and others.

The message emphasizes the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of its citizens and warns against undertaking water journeys without essential safety equipment, particularly within the entertainment industry.

The statement reads in parts;

On behalf of the State Government, Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the entire creative family in the state, I sympathize with the families of those who lost their lives in the process of expressing their creative talent on their way from the location of shooting a movie on April 10, 2024, and the entire Nollywood family.

The Delta State Government takes the life of every citizen as a priority and therefore warns against water journeys without the required safety gadgets, especially those within the entertainment industry.
