Eight members of ‘Operation Safe Haven’ were rewarded by the Military Special Task Force of the Nigerian Army, which is in charge of preserving peace in Plateau State, after turning down a N1.5 million bribe from people who were allegedly cattle rustlers in the area.

According to a statement made by the task force’s spokesman, Capt. Oya James, eight employees of OPSH Sector 4 stopped thirty rustled cows at the Bisichi checkpoint in the state’s Barkin Ladi local government area, all of which belonged to Shehu Umar.

He continued by saying that the cattle had been robbed in Mangu and were being taken to a secret place when they were stopped by task force members conducting a stop-and-search operation.

The statement states that “the vehicle’s occupants, 20-year-old Anas Usman and 42-year-old Gyang Cholly, immediately approached” the army in order to bribe them and obtain a security pass for the stolen animals.

The money offered for the bribe was rejected, and the suspects were also taken into custody.

In addition to giving the distinguished individuals a financial incentive, the release stated that Maj. Gen. Abubakar, the commander of Operation Safe Haven, urged other security personnel to continuously demonstrate bravery and good conduct in the performance of their duties.
