Nigerian footballer, Victor Osimhen, has clinched the ‘Best African International Player prize’ at the just concluded 5th edition of Ghana Football Awards 2023, held on Sunday 25th June2023, in Accra, Ghana.

The Player won the award by getting the highest number of votes ahead of Liverpool’s Player, Mohamed Salah, Manchester City Winger, Riyad Mahrez, and Yassine Bounou of Morocco.

This is the first time Osimhen is winning the award, also making him the first Nigerian to achieve the feat.

 The 24-year-old Nigerian striker, scored 31 goals across all competitions last season to help Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in more than three decades.

In a tweet posted on Ghana Football Awards twitter page, Osimhen, expressed his gratitude to those who voted for him and promised to continue to make Africa proud. 

“It is a great privilege for me to win this award, it’s a great honor. Thank you to those who voted for me and for the support. Major thanks to the organizers of the Ghana Football Awards for their love and support also, I appreciate you all for this”

He had earlier in the year won two awards, the ‘Serie A scooped the top scorer awards’, and the ‘Best striker in the top flight’. He also won the league’s golden boot. Victor, stands a chance of taking home the best player of the Year award at the 2023 CAF Awards.
