The House of Representatives Committee overseeing the National Agency on Food, Drugs Administration, and Control, NAFDAC has temporarily lifted the ban on the sale of alcoholic drinks in sachets and pet bottles.

This decision is pending the committee’s investigation outcome.

Chairperson of the committee, Regina Akume highlighted the importance of taking proper procedures in imposing bans and emphasized the need for access control measures.

The committee, led by Akume, aims to establish mechanisms preventing children and youths from accessing alcoholic contents in sachets and pet bottles, ensuring a fair balance between NAFDAC and manufacturers while maintaining public safety.

Earlier, NAFDAC’s Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, stated the initial ban was aimed at safeguarding the health of vulnerable groups.
