The renowned Manchester United icon crucial to England’s 1966 World Cup triumph, Bobby Charlton, passed away at 86 on Saturday, 21st October 2023.

Over his 17-year stint with United, he secured three league titles, a European Cup, and an FA Cup.

His family confirmed his peaceful passing, expressing gratitude for the care and support he received.

Charlton’s family said;

He passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning” pass.pass on their thanks to everyone who has contributed to his care and for the many people who have loved and supported him”.
“We would request that the family’s privacy be respected at this time,” their statement added.

Manchester United paid a fond tribute to Charlton, describing his global impact and sportsmanship as;

one of the greatest and most beloved players in the history of our club.
Sir Bobby was a hero to millions, not just in Manchester, or the United Kingdom, but wherever football is played around the world.”

Charlton’s exceptional achievements, integrity, and contributions will forever be cherished in football history, carrying on through the Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation.

His departure leaves Sir Geoff Hurst as the lone surviving member of the triumphant 1966 team, following the deaths of his older brother Jack and fellow World Cup winner Nobby Stiles, who also battled dementia.
