The Lagos State Government has announced the launch of an investigation into an Indian Language School that allegedly admits only Indian nationals and denies Nigerians admission. This announcement was made by the commissioner of Basic Education ,Jamiu, Alli Balogon during a press briefing to mark Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s one year in office on Thursday, April 25th, 2024.

The Commissioner of Basic education Jamiu Alli-Balogun stated that the state government could take strong action against the Indian school in Ilupeju if found guilty after investigation.


Officials of the state Ministry of Education have visited the school and investigation is being deepened to ascertain the veracity of the report. I can assure you that an appropriate action will be taken against the school if the investigation team found the school wanting. At the end of our investigation, if the school is found culpable, it would be shut down

He emphasized that refusing admission to any child contradicts the Child Rights Act, which the Lagos State Government has adopted into law.

“No school has the right to deny admission to any child, in Lagos,” Alli-Balogun stressed.

The commissioner noted that since 2023, at least 12 private schools in the state have been closed down for different violations.
