Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso has been nominated by President Bola Tinubu as the new governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, for a five-year tenure.

Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, made the announcement on Friday, 15th September, 2023, according to a news release. Dr. Cardoso will hold office for a period of time pending Senate approval.

Additionally, Emem Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello, were nominated and authorised by President Tinubu to serve as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Deputy Governors for a tenure of five years.

The Presidential Spokesman stated that the directive is in accordance with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007, which grants the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the power to appoint the governor and four deputy governors for the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

All appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
