Popular singer, Teniola Apata, better known as Teni, has sparked reactions after receiving her Award as Member, Order of the Niger, MON, conferred on her by President Muhammadu Buhari on the 11th October 2022 at the International Conference Center, Abuja.

Teni, along with other Awardees were conferred National Honours by President Muhammadu Buhari. A viral video from the event showed the moment Teni, who rocked a suit, was called upon to receive her award as she was conferred with the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) award.

Social media users have reacted to her demeanor while receiving the Award, with some saying that her carriage in the presence of the President was disrespectful, while others said there’s nothing she did wrong.

JJ. Omojuwa wrote “I watched the Teni video receiving the award last night, I have watched it several times again this morning. I will watch it several times again this afternoon. Hopefully, I’d eventually see the disrespect in that video. When I see it, I will share with friends and allies.

Persian Oueen stated “Teni disrespected our president and you all are praising her for such unruly behavior?”

Alex Oluwatobi also wrote: “From the video in circulation, you’ll see that Teni didn’t walk out on the President, she was happy and proud and her demeanor was giving the tomboy swagger vibe.

Another Twitter user, pebbles wrote: “That she didn’t shine teeth with PMB doesn’t mean she was being disrespectful, you people rest abeg A.

Series Abiódún ‘Bai I’ve watched the video several times and it looked more like Buhari closed the lid of the award rather than Teni ignoring a handshake. I see nothing wrong.

Teni has since shown off her award in a Video. The celebrity singer showed her Award off, in a joyful mood.

Other Nigerian entertainers who have received various awards, past and present, include Burna Boy, 2Baba, Mo Abudu, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Joke Silva.
