Nigerian rapper, Terry Tha Rapman has reacted to Wizkid’s reluctance to identify as an Afrobeats artist on his X platform. He accused the singer of trying to undermine the genre with his seemingly dismissive comments, likening it to his negative comments about the rap genre in 2022.
Earlier this week, Wizkid received backlash for rejecting the Afrobeats label, after he declared that he does not want to be boxed into one genre.
Terry Tha Rapman went on to caution Highlife artists to be wary, suggesting they could be Wizkid’s next focus.
In a December 2022 interview with 10 Magazine, a British luxury quarterly publication, Wizkid asserted the innovativeness of the Afrobeats genre compared to rap music, which he described as tedious and worn-out.
Wizkid’s critique of the rap genre sparked mixed reactions at the time.
