Media figure Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has recounted the circumstances that led him to audition for the inaugural season of Big Brother Nigeria, now known as Big Brother Naija.

During a recent episode of the Menisms Podcast, Ebuka reflected on his modest beginnings as a contestant in the 2006 debut season, emphasizing that he never envisioned attaining fame.

He shared how he stumbled upon the show’s advertisement and, spurred by a dare, decided to audition.

Despite initially lacking aspirations for stardom, Ebuka found himself drawn to the allure of the competition, particularly by the prospect of interacting with attractive women and winning the substantial cash prize.

He noted the stark contrast between the show’s early days, when contestants didn’t anticipate celebrity status, and the present, where participation often serves as a springboard to entertainment careers.

Reflecting on the era before social media dominance, Ebuka highlighted the modest $100,000 prize and the traditional newspaper advertising methods.

His primary motivation at the time was to secure the prize money, enabling him to pursue further studies abroad.
