Award-winning rapper, singer and songwriter, Nicki Minaj, who has made massive impact on the music industry and has been in the game for over a decade, has topped the chart in the 10th position and named by Billboard/Vibe’s as the ‘greatest female rapper’ of all time .
The soft-spoken singer, has undeniably blazed the trail for the next generation of female MCs, while building a legacy whose impact is hardly limited to the hip-hop world and one of only a dozen artists to have more than 100 Billboard Hot 100 entries, and in 2022, earned the ‘MTV Video Vanguard Award’, for her provocative music videos.
Determining factors for these rankings by the Billboard and Vibe editorial teams was firstly, to limit the rap arena to North America, opted not to include the significant contributions of reggae and dance-hall MCs on this list, just to keep their pool of nominees a little more focused.
The teams, also considered the following criteria; body of work/achievements, charted singles/albums, gold/platinum certifications, longevity, years at the mic, lyrics, storytelling skills, cultural impact/influence, how the artist’s work fostered the genre’s evolution and flow, vocal prowess.
